Okay, okay. I’m sure most of you already seen this video but ever wonder who sang the song? I thought it was vaguely familiar and guess I wasn’t wrong… I thought the song is sung in Bangla and turns out it is! The lyrics are from a poem called “Stream of Life” by the Bengali Shakespeare Rabindranth Tagore, a Nobel prize winner and a literary influence for the Bangladesh Liberation War in the 1970’s for you history junkies out there. The voice behind it is a seventeen year old Palbasha Siddique, an American Bangladeshi native in Minneapolis.
Praan (“Life”) – Garry Schyman
Bangla Romanized lyrics
Bhulbona ar shohojete
Shei praan e mon uthbe mete
Mrittu majhe dhaka ache
je ontohin praan
Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami
(Repeat 3X)
Shei jhor jeno shoi anonde
Chittobinar taare
Shotto-shundu dosh digonto
Nachao je jhonkare!
Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami
(Repeat 3X)
English Translation
Stream of Life
by Rabindranath Tagore
The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day
runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth
in numberless blades of grass
and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.
It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth
and of death, in ebb and in flow.
I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

Not really, I didn’t. QGYH2 on digg did. But who on the world would have known that this guy was on Google Maps the entire time! And sir, I want my money back.
I’m sure you know him (Google Maps)
Soulmate 01 – “This Is Not A Love Song” August 9, 2008

The concept of a soul mate is almost laughable these days. Yeah sure, there are some extreme romantics out there who do think it exists (believe me, I know of one personally). But what if you know that the ‘one’ is right there under your nose? How would you react? Well, this sitcom explores the complicated situations of love through four couples. If I said anymore, it’d ruin the surprise. Even though it’s a sitcom, it feels like a drama. A really refreshing and brilliant one that you’ll gobble up into bits.
Nouvelle Vague – This Is Not A Love Song
The Theme Song for this episode. And one of the songs I cannot get enough of.
Is it just me or doesn’t Phillip look a lot like Bae Yong Joon?
Now, recap’s ahead!

N’uff said. He’s a genius, fabulous, brilliant and the winner of Project Runway Season Four. You can’t help but fall for him. And I bet you’ll be including ‘fierce’ in your everyday vocabulary once you see this video.

Gah, I’m mesmerized and hooked by the kdrama Soulmate. I’m seriously losing sleep. From amazing choice of music, nice paced storyline and stellar cast, it is too full of OMG. For the past two days I’ve got Nouvelle Vague’s This Is Not A Love Song and Lasse Lindh’s Comon’ Through stuck in my head. It even got me too distracted while on my biking routine and almost crashed into this poor old Lebanese woman. Why oh why isn’t there a season two?
It’s too much. I haven’t been this hooked since the first 12 airing episodes of Hong Gil Dong.
Thank god for limited internet (stealingwifi from neighbour) and summer vacation. I remember skipping breakfast and running straight to the internet streaming channel trying to get a tiny glimpse on the next episode before I head off to school.
Okay, I’ve gone mad.
At least on the plus side, the series is complete. No more anxious feelings or mixed emotions. :)
Now I’m gonna hunt down the Soulmate OST.

Remember what I said when I was supposed to be on hiatus until August 10th?
Erase that. Stealing wi-fi from your neighbor can be so handy at times. Muahahaha. Clearly, I have commitment issues.
En lieu with The Dark Knight Bonganza, I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off from this video.

Is that what I really think it is?
GOD, I HOPE NOT.
They’re making a live action Dragonball Z movie?
NO WAY.
And it’s filming in my city?
OH NO.
How nostalgic.
Now don’t get me wrong, I was a Dragonball Z fan when I was eleven. It sounds silly coming from ex-female fan who watched in one sitting all episodes of the series with an old neighbor one night. It is a great show if you gave it a chance…Given in mind I was eleven and could be influenced very easily. Nah.. at eleven, I was more into watching the WWF wrestling competitions with my father and dressed myself in baggy pants and hoodies to oppose the other girls who were into makeup, tube tops and boys. I didn’t have any interest in those kind of things. But that doesn’t mean I would’ve watched Dragonball Z in the first place. I shrugged it off at first seeing it on YTV as a show meant for boys with its non stop grunting, testosterone filled fighting scenes and angry looking and gender question aliens (Sorry Piccolo, I initially thought you were secretly a woman but hell, you’re a hermaphrodite). Just google Freeza and the Ginyu team already.
Pfft, I don’t know how I got into it but… it is a good show. I can’t believe I typed that. It is the first show that introduced me to the whole, you know, streaming movies online.
I see that this post is going nowhere.
But how in the world will they pull this off? I mean, green colored aliens (Ah hem, Picolo) and its perverted sense of humor will turn some people off. Who in the world calls their kids Trunks and Bra? No wait, I take that back. Parents call their kids anything these days. Even his mission will sound hilarious for the newcomers—Goku who has a heart of gold searches for the seven magic balls in order to be granted a wish by a long dragon who pierces the sky (Freud anyone?) How are they gonna do the Super Saiyan effect? Use maybe massive amount of gel and blonde hair dye? He doesn’t have much hair to do that in the first place.
Mr. Akira Toriyama was on crack when he wrote Dragonball Z. Honestly, this show isn’t meant to be on the silver screen. It promises one thing though—Hilarity will ensue.
Alone : A Review of Sorts July 21, 2008

So this weekend, I finally got to see Alone from Montreal’s Fantasia Film fest. Another flick by the duo masters of horror (Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom) who also did Shutter. I didn’t expect that night to be a full house! It was impossible to find seats for the four of us. First thing I have mention is that I am possibly the biggest scaredy cat out there. I don’t know what in my right mind made me even want to see this movie but somehow the trailer convinced me. I was insane when I rushed out to the admission counter and bought tickets. Yup, that must be it.
Siamese twins with romance tearing them apart… how epic.
Pet peeves for the film audience that night, I know that even though the directors and co-writers of the film were to host that night, IT DOES NOT MEAN TO CLAP EACH TIME YOU’RE TERRIFIED OUT OF YOUR MIND. Uggh, the guy behind me was indescribably rude. He was cheering loudly each time there was a brutal accident involving an animal’s death. I AM TRYING TO WATCH THE FILM YOU SADISTS. Why oh why… I would’ve slapped them all but I only have two hands. And don’t bring sushi to a horror film. You may choke and die a stupid preventable death. Plus, the vinegar rice smell is irritating on my nose. No wait, I’d prefer the girl who sat next to me choking over her sushi.
Geez, I’m totally aggravated right now.
Alone tells the story of two conjoined twins, Pim and Ploy, who separated themselves over a guy named Wee whom they met at a hospital. That’s really it. Except the directors really took the myth to heart that if one twin dies, the other one follows. Your usual scare cliches were there…. the bath tub scene, the closet, the running scene, random noise over ceiling scene, the scene scene scene but hell, there were scenes I did not expect! Gah, I couldn’t get my mind over her legs gently floating over Pim’s sleeping body. I’m shivering as I type this. And her dead skin cells rejoining with her sister… whjohaekfjkajqkas. Insert here more incoherent blabbery.
It turns out that the current alive ‘Pim’ isn’t ‘Pim’ at all but Ploy disguised as Pim in order to get Wee’s affections. She kills her own mother who knows her secret and then goes on a killing spree and tries to kill Wee.
Being the wuss cat I am, I did not like how the film refused to create ‘tension’ and delved straight into the scare pit. It was one scare after another… It was like riding on a roller coaster, really. A gruesome two hour roller coaster. It’s hard to keep my poor eyes close for that long.
Then the Q&A for the makers followed up. Questions in the audiences were great… despite their immaturity. I learned about how the directors now are making a political drama movie. I wish them well in their future endeavors.
Sissel – Lær Meg Å Kjenne
Yes, this is the same song that was used in Hong Gil Dong. It’s starkingly fitting for this movie.
The directors were right. Fear is universal.

On an irrelevant comment, I changed my layout for the timebeing. Bear with this change while I find one that suits.
I bet most of you academics were warned bout how copying and pasting research materials and claiming the work as your own lands you in hot scalding waters. What I’m surprised about is that nothing is done when other artists in a different country could profit at the expense of others. I’m pointing at you, Mr. Pritam. Don’t tell me it’s not a coincidence. I would have never found out if I didn’t pick up the latest copy of Race at my local Hindi rental shop and watched Delightful Girl Choon Hyang beforehand. Music can overcome geographical bourdaries, sure, but don’t blatantly steal it without giving credit.
Specimen One – Sarangaheyo from DGCH OST
Specimen Two – Pehli Nazar Mai from Race
Of course, I realize that the music industry is relentless towards its artists (Look at Hyori’s case with Get Ya and Britney Spear’s Do Somethin’). It looks like Pritam plagiarized more than one song. I’m already questioning his music credentials. But to go this low for fame? That’s despicable. Does he even know how many months a genuine artist spend in their studio to compose a three to four minute song?
What are your thoughts on this?

Why go though life to learn all of these lessons? Be aware! This comic presents a cynical but honest guide to life in general. What? A little cynicism never hurts. And it’s cute too.
