Proposal Daisakusen Special

It’s finally over. Sorry for the long hiatus! In other news, Illjimae’s on tonight! I can’t wait! If you’d like Illjimae recaps, you could head over to Sevenses’s blog. She’ll be recapping the series.
The special takes off from where we left off in the series with Rei chasing after Ken in her wedding dress. Luckily for Rei, she doesn’t have use so much energy to run in her high hell shoes since the cab’s run out of gas (Still, did she need to pant so much after only running for one minute?). After filling up, the cab driver drops them off at a nearby beach wishing them good luck on the two for their married life. Kenzo and Rei look at each other with hesitation and doesn’t bother to correct him.
Rei notes that strolling on the perfect sunset beach is similar to scenes in the movies and gushes about honeymoons. Kei is his usual nonchalant self, bickering here and there with the runaway bride about the old times. He gives in and hugs Rei to thank her for choosing him over the groom. He moves in for her lips… but darn, the water splashes on them breaking the romantic mood and steals away Rei’s shoe. Ken then goes to the waves desperately for her shoe. A stupid idea on his part considering he’ll never find it. Rei does some sort of dance with her wedding dress flickering on to her face. Hun, wearing a wedding dress to the beach is never a good idea. He could’ve taken her to a hotel or his place. More bickering follows and complaints ensues from Rei’s mouth. Ken offers his back so she could piggyback him on the way home.
One year later, wedding bells are chiming. We see Ken being a bozo in a hotel room with empty beer bottles on the table. Camera pans out and honey, we’re not in Tokyo anymore. We’re in Hawaii, baby! Ken’s late, he rushes out the hotel in a tuxedo. He calls for a taxi but he has no cash on him so what does he decide to do? Probably what most asian drama actors enjoy doing. He runs for his dear life (it’s true though, instead of using a bike or maybe a scooter, the protagonist always runs! What’s up with that?).
Somehow, Ken has super high agility and endurance levels that he makes it to the Honolulu International Airport right at the moment when Rei is off the airplane. The duo board a limo and head off towards the chapel. Finally they’re getting married!
Oh wait, no. That’s not right. Rei’s not in a wedding dress. Then whose wedding are we heading off to !?! Ken and Rei slips into the chapel expecting the ceremony to begin in any minute but the ceremony is delayed. The bride and the groom don’t want to come out. Ohhhhhhh, it’s the wedding between Hisashi, the munchkin guy, and Eri! Looks like some sort of dispute between the two. Hisashi is twiddling his thumbs and pacing back and forth to convince his bride, Eri, to come out. Rei offers to help but Hisashi is making excuses to prevent her from opening the door. Ken jumps to the conclusion that he might’ve forgotten the wedding dress and from the look on Hisashi’s face, it sure looks like it. The three throws the munchkin boy and barges into the room. Yup, there’s the dress and… WHAT? Just who is that wearing the wedding dress?
I didn’t know munchkin boy was gay! I mean there were subtle hints here and there throughout the series… I guess the truth came out just in time.
Oh alright, I’ll stop with the jokes. Turns out Eri’s gotten the wedding blues and ran away to Japan while the man bride wallows his self pity as a failure to act like a woman. Flashback anyone? Rei finally sees that she’s been selfish to leave her ex-groom and her parents standing alone in the chapel that one year ago. So gloom presides the scene now and Ken heads back to the empty chapel with Mikio. Mikio expresses his opinion against marriage and tries convincing Ken to pop the question to Rei. Ken doesn’t really answer. The marriage topic never came up in their one year together.
Camera switches to Tokyo where Eri is sulking in the kitchen and is on the phone with Rei. Eri tells of her reason why she left: she suspected Munchkin Boy cheating with another woman. What, really? -_- She started stalking him and because of this, she felt she no longer had the right to marry him and break his poor Munchkin soul.
Meanwhile, Mikio and Ken are watching a DVD from their high school memories in the chapel. Mikio mentions that it’s rare that the five of them has stayed friends for so long and it’s all a coincidence. It’s all thanks to joining the same baseball club he guesses. Now for the unfamilar audience members, we have a flashback scene to Rei and Ken’s first meeting at kindergarten and how he disliked her when she read his name wrong from his eraser. Circumstances happen and little Ken-zo promises to take care of little Rei for the rest of his life. More flashbacks happens from the series that I’m not gonna bother with because I don’t want to. It’s as simple as that. If you want to know, go check out the series yourself.
Now after some pondering, Ken feels guilty and wants to turn back time for Tsuru (It’s a nickname for Hisashi, the Munchkin Boy). Light beams all heaven-like on Ken. Cue the opera music! The Fairy appears!
How nice. After such a long while from the last time they met, he first lectures the boy. Blah blah, more philosophical spewing comes out of the Fairy’s mouth. He offers him the chance and Ken gets the message, it’s HALLELUJAH CHANCE time! Oh of course, it doesn’t work since they spoke in Japanese. Must speak English here when in America. So again, Ken says it in English and it’s successful. I still don’t see the difference, maybe he spoke with an accent the first time?
Ken finds himself in bowing position to Tada, the dumped ex-groom. Being an excellent teacher he is, he’s humble. What’s done is done. He then speaks in architecture jargon and connects it to human emotions.
Omigosh, over 1000 words.
I’m publishing this now because I feel guilty. It’s always a work in progress.
